ASL Airlines France: What This Airline Actually Does
ASL Airlines France, which began as Europe Airpost and is now part of the Irish group ASL Aviation Holdings (controlled by the Belgian maritime conglomerate CMB), has its main base at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. Unlike most of the airlines reviewed here, it is not designed to be booked directly by an occasional traveler: its core business is overnight cargo transport, alongside a smaller share of passenger charter flights and flights operated on behalf of third parties.
From Europe Airpost to Cargo and Charter Specialist
The historic core of the business is overnight mail transport on behalf of La Poste and integrators such as FedEx Express, an activity that remains the center of the business far more than the passenger side. The rebranding under the ASL group strengthened this cargo vocation while keeping a small fleet dedicated to carrying people.
Boeing 737s, Between Cargo Holds and Passenger Cabins
The fleet consists entirely of Boeing 737s: the cargo versions 737-300F, 737-400F and 737-800BCF for freight, along with some 737-700s and 737-800s configured for passenger transport on a charter basis.
Who Really Flies with ASL Airlines France
On the passenger side, the airline operates charter flights for European tour operators, French regional links to Algeria and transatlantic flights on behalf of Air Saint-Pierre to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, the French archipelago near Canada. It therefore has no passenger network of its own comparable to that of a traditional scheduled carrier.
The most realistic profile is less a "typical passenger" than someone departing on a charter organized by a European tour operator or someone flying for work to Algeria from a French regional city; it is not suitable for anyone expecting to book a standard ticket on the airline's website for a leisure trip planned independently. A practical tip: if your ticket carries the code 5O but was bought through a tour operator or through Air Saint-Pierre, the correct point of reference for baggage and assistance remains the original seller, not ASL Airlines France directly.
