Hotels near Poprad-Tatry Airport

Poprad-Tatry is the small seasonal airport of the High Tatras: a taxi reaches central Poprad in about 10 minutes (5 km), while the only city bus to the coach station runs sparse services with little regard for flight times. Those staying only in Poprad, perhaps for the AquaCity thermal baths, can stay in town without any problem; those heading straight to the mountain resorts of Štrbské Pleso, Starý Smokovec or Tatranská Lomnica must allow a further 15-45 minutes by car or taxi on top of the airport transfer, because no train links the airport directly to the mountain railway: the historic Tatra Electric Railway departs from Poprad-Tatry station, in the city centre, not from the terminal. For those who want to sleep at altitude straight away, the most convenient base among the few verifiable properties is Tatranská Štrba, the terminus of the rack railway to Štrbské Pleso.
City centre

Poprad city centre

By taxi about 10 minutes for 5 km from the airport; the city bus to the coach station runs sporadic services and the stop closest to the terminal is about 300 metres away, not very practical with luggage and flight times.

Best for: Those who want Poprad's centre and the AquaCity thermal baths without going too far from the airport, with a short, reliable transfer.

Pros
  • A short, predictable transfer, useful even for the earliest morning flights
  • AquaCity Poprad, the large thermal water park, is about 1 km from the centre and 5 minutes from the railway station
Cons
  • The city bus to the airport is sparse and not designed for those travelling with suitcases
  • To go up to the High Tatras you still need a second transfer from Poprad-Tatry station

Neighbourhood

Spišská Sobota

About 8 km from the airport, 15 minutes by taxi; from Poprad's modern centre another 10-15 minutes on foot or a short drive to the district's triangular square.

Best for: Those who prefer to sleep among the Renaissance houses of Poprad's historic quarter rather than in the modern centre, with AquaCity still within taxi reach.

Pros
  • A triangular square with Renaissance burgher houses and the Gothic church of St George, among the best-preserved historic cores in Slovakia
  • A quieter, more intimate district than Poprad's administrative centre
Cons
  • Farther from the airport than Poprad's centre: a taxi is always needed, since there's no convenient bus stop
  • Evening life is limited to a few traditional taverns, not the venues of the centre

Nearby town

Tatranská Štrba and the High Tatras

About 18 km from the airport, 25-30 minutes by car or with a private transfer; from Tatranská Štrba the historic rack railway reaches Štrbské Pleso in about 15 minutes, with regular departures from the village station.

Best for: Those who want to sleep at altitude right away next to the rack railway to Štrbské Pleso, accepting a longer transfer from the airport.

Pros
  • A base right at the rack railway to Štrbské Pleso, without first having to pass through Poprad
  • A quiet mountain area, away from the city traffic
Cons
  • A longer transfer from the airport, almost always to be arranged in advance (taxi or private transfer, few public transport options)
  • Few services in the village itself: for dinner or shopping you depend on nearby towns
