Hotels near Vancouver International Airport

Vancouver Airport occupies Sea Island, separated from the city by the Fraser River: the SkyTrain's Canada Line reaches Waterfront, downtown, in 26 minutes with no transfers, and Richmond or Marpole in 15-20 minutes. Among the properties listed near the terminal there are no major chains, but mostly guesthouses and private homes along the metro line, concentrated in Marpole, on the south side of Vancouver. For downtown, with the Stanley Park seawall and the restaurants of Gastown, the Canada Line remains the most convenient solution anyway, with no need to sleep near the runways.

Marpole, on the Canada Line

The Canada Line's Sea Island Centre station reaches Marpole in about 15-20 minutes with a transfer at Bridgeport, or you can get there by car in 10 minutes covering about 5 km; downtown Vancouver remains another 10 minutes away by SkyTrain.

Best for: Travellers with a very early flight or on a layover who prefer an affordable private guesthouse to a chain hotel.

Pros
  • Marpole is on the same metro line that reaches downtown with no further transfers
  • Quiet residential neighbourhood on the Fraser River, with lower prices than downtown
Cons
  • Almost no chain hotels in the area: the choice is between guesthouses and private homes
  • Evening life is limited to the strip of restaurants on Marine Drive, little else nearby

Airport services

The airport provides services appropriate to its role as a major international hub, a key connection point between North America and Asia.

Shopping & Duty Free

The duty-free area is extensive, featuring Canadian whisky, smoked salmon from the Pacific, and ice wine, Canada's renowned dessert wine.

Lounges & relaxation

In Vancouver, most of the offering carries the Plaza Premium name, present with several lounges across the international zone, the transborder area toward the United States and the domestic area, accessible mainly through Priority Pass, DragonPass or cards like the American Express Platinum. Air Canada instead follows a status-based ladder: from the Signature Suite reserved for the highest fares down to the Maple Leaf Lounges in each terminal. Standing apart are the SkyTeam lounge, the only one open 24 hours, and the Cathay Pacific one, tied to the schedule of its few weekly flights.

Customs and security checks can take longer than expected, especially for flights with USA pre-clearance: for international flights it's recommended to arrive at least 3 hours early.
