The British Virgin Islands have a single airport with regular connections: Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, on Beef Island, connected to Tortola (the main island) by a bridge.

British Virgin Islands: visa and entry requirements

A British overseas territory: most Western nationalities (European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia) do not need a visa for tourist stays, generally up to 30 days. The passport must be valid for the length of the stay; proof of onward travel is required.

British Virgin Islands: safety

The British Virgin Islands are among the safest Caribbean destinations for tourists, with violent crime rare. The usual precautions (not leaving valuables unattended on the beach or on a boat) are sufficient. The hurricane season runs from June to November, peaking between August and October.

British Virgin Islands: health situation

No vaccination is mandatory for those arriving from Europe. Healthcare facilities are limited: for complex cases, transfer to Puerto Rico or the United States is common, hence the importance of travel insurance with adequate medical coverage, especially for those practising water sports or sailing, very common activities in the archipelago.

British Virgin Islands: currency, payments and connectivity

The official currency is the US dollar (USD), used directly with no need to exchange for those arriving with dollars. Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and boat charters. There are no widespread ride-hailing apps: local taxis are the main means of transport, generally at an agreed fare or a fixed published fare for the most common routes. For connectivity, the operators Flow and Digicel sell prepaid SIM cards. For driving (on the left, despite most vehicles having the steering wheel on the left as in the US, a local quirk), an International Driving Permit (IDP) or a local temporary driving permit is generally also required.
