Cayman Islands: main airports
The Cayman Islands have a single international airport: Grand Cayman Airport, the only air gateway to the British overseas territory, a famous destination for scuba diving and offshore finance.
Cayman Islands: recommended activities
Cayman Islands: visa and entry requirements
Most nationalities (European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Canada and much of the Commonwealth) do not need a visa for tourist stays, generally up to 30 days. The passport must be valid for the length of the stay.
Cayman Islands: safety
The Cayman Islands are among the safest Caribbean destinations for tourists, with violent crime against visitors very rare. The usual precautions against petty theft on the beach are sufficient. The hurricane season runs from June to November.
Cayman Islands: health situation
No vaccination is mandatory for those arriving from Europe. Healthcare facilities are of good standard by Caribbean standards; for complex cases, repatriation to the United States or United Kingdom is common, hence the usefulness of travel insurance with adequate medical coverage, especially for those diving.
Cayman Islands: currency, payments and connectivity
The currency is the Cayman Islands dollar (KYD), at a fixed exchange rate of about 1 to 1.25 with the US dollar, widely accepted throughout the island. Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and tourist shops. Uber does not operate widely: local taxis are the main means of transport, generally at a fixed published fare for the most common routes. For connectivity, the operators Flow and Digicel sell prepaid SIM cards. For driving (on the left, as in the UK), a temporary local licence is required, issuable on site by the rental agency.
