Dominica: main airports
Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic) has a single airport with regular connections: Douglas-Charles Airport, on the island's north-east coast, famous for its unspoiled rainforests and hot springs, known as the Caribbean's nature island.
Dominica: recommended activities
Dominica: visa and entry requirements
Most nationalities (European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia) do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Proof of a return or onward ticket, booked accommodation and sufficient funds is required; working is not permitted under this type of entry. The passport must be valid for the duration of the stay.
Dominica: safety
Dominica is generally very safe for tourists, with violent crime rare: the usual precautions against petty theft in urban areas in the evening are sufficient. The main risk is linked to hurricane season (June-November).
Dominica: health situation
A yellow fever certificate is required only for those arriving from, or transiting for over 12 hours through, a country at risk of transmission. No other vaccination is mandatory for those arriving from Europe. Health facilities are limited, with evacuation to Martinique, Guadeloupe or the United States common for complex cases: travel insurance with adequate coverage is strongly recommended.
Dominica: currency, payments and connectivity
The currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (XCD); credit cards are widely accepted at tourist facilities, often with a small additional fee, but cash remains useful for small purchases. There are no widespread Western ride-hailing apps: local taxis are the main means of transport. For connectivity, the operators Flow and Digicel sell prepaid SIM cards. For driving (on the left, as in the United Kingdom), a temporary local licence is required, obtainable locally from the rental agency or at the police station.
