Guinea: main airports
Guinea has a single international airport: Conakry Airport, the capital, the main gateway to this West African country.
Guinea: recommended activities
Guinea: visa and entry requirements
A visa is mandatory for most nationalities, including Italian: it is obtained via online e-visa before departure. A yellow fever certificate is mandatory.
Guinea: safety
It must be said honestly: Guinea has experienced recurring political instability, including a military coup in September 2021, with a transitional government still in power; protests and political tensions are possible with little notice, especially in Conakry. The United States classifies the country as Level 3 ('reconsider travel'). Anyone who needs to travel there should check the updated political situation before departure and avoid gatherings or demonstrations.
Guinea: health situation
A yellow fever certificate is mandatory for entry. Guinea is a high-risk malaria area across its entire territory: antimalarial prophylaxis is strongly recommended together with rigorous mosquito protection. Healthcare facilities are very limited: insurance with medical evacuation is essential.
Guinea: currency, payments and connectivity
The currency is the Guinean franc (GNF); cash is essential in most situations. There are no widespread Western ride-hailing apps: local taxis are the main means of transport. For connectivity, the operators Orange Guinée and MTN Guinée sell prepaid SIM cards. For driving, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is generally also required alongside the national one.
