Airports in Jordan

Jordan: main airports

Jordan is served mainly by Queen Alia Airport in Amman, the capital, and by Aqaba Airport, on the Red Sea.

The country is famous for the Nabataean city of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Wadi Rum desert and the waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth.

Jordan: visa and entry requirements

A tourist visa on arrival costs 40 JOD (about 56 USD); alternatively, the Jordan Pass (from 70 JOD) includes the free visa (for stays of at least 3 nights/4 days) together with entry to over 40 attractions, including Petra, whose single-day ticket alone costs 50 JOD.

For those visiting Petra, the Jordan Pass is almost always more convenient than paying separately for the visa and entrance tickets.

Jordan: safety

Jordan is generally considered one of the most stable and safe countries in the Middle East, with well-organised tourism towards the main sites.

Always check your country's updated travel advisories, especially regarding the border areas with Syria and Iraq, which generally remain not recommended for visitors.

Jordan: health situation

No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry from Europe or North America. Summer temperatures in the desert and at Petra can be extreme: always carry plenty of water and sun protection for excursions.

Tap water is generally treated but many visitors nonetheless prefer bottled water.

Jordan: currency, payments and connectivity

The currency is the Jordanian dinar (JOD), among the strongest currencies in the region: pay attention to bills, as even small amounts in dinars correspond to significant sums in euros or dollars.

The official language is Arabic, with English widely spoken in the tourism sector. A tip (10%) is generally expected at restaurants and appreciated for guides.
