Namibia: recommended activities
Namibia: visa and entry requirements
Citizens of the EU, UK, US and many other nationalities can enter without a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days.
Always check the updated requirements before departure.
Namibia: safety
Namibia is generally one of the safest countries in Africa for visitors, with violent crime against tourists rare.
Long distances on gravel roads require careful driving, especially at dusk when wildlife can cross the road. Always check weather conditions before excursions into the desert.
Namibia: health situation
Vaccinations against hepatitis A and typhoid are recommended; antimalarial prophylaxis is advisable for the northern areas of the country (Caprivi, Etosha). Yellow fever vaccination is required for those arriving from at-risk countries.
Bring plenty of water and sun protection for any desert excursion, given the extremely arid climate.
Namibia: currency, payments and connectivity
The currency is the Namibian dollar (NAD), pegged to the South African rand (ZAR), widely accepted throughout the country. Credit cards are accepted at the main establishments; bring cash for rural areas.
The languages spoken are English (official), Afrikaans and several local languages. A tip (10%) is appreciated at restaurants and for safari guides.
