Panama: visa and entry requirements
Citizens of the EU, UK, US, Canada and Australia do not need a tourist visa for stays of up to 180 days.
A passport with at least 3 months of remaining validity is required, along with a return or onward travel ticket, and on entry proof of economic means of around 500 USD may be requested.
Panama: safety
Panama City is generally safe in the tourist areas (Casco Viejo, Bella Vista, Punta Pacífica), but some areas such as Curundú or El Chorrillo require greater caution, especially at night.
Always check your country's updated travel advisories and avoid displaying valuables on the street.
Panama: health situation
No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry from Europe or North America, except yellow fever for those coming from at-risk countries. However, hepatitis A and typhoid vaccination is recommended for more adventurous travellers.
In rural areas and the jungle, antimalarial prophylaxis is useful: consult a doctor specialised in travel medicine before departure.
Panama: currency, payments and connectivity
The official currency is the Panamanian balboa (PAB), but the US dollar (USD) is used as everyday currency and is accepted everywhere at par.
The official language is Spanish; English is common in tourist areas and in the commercial sector linked to the Canal. Official taxis do not use meters and do not accept credit cards: always carry cash in dollars.
