Airport parking: how to really save money

Booking in advance is convenient, but the percentage varies widely

There's no fixed discount equal for all hubs: some airports apply limited official reductions (around 10-20%) for those who book online a few days in advance and stay for at least two or three days, while independent comparison portals, which aggregate rates from multiple operators, often advertise discounts of up to 50-60% compared to the price posted at the barrier. Before trusting the highest percentage, it's worth checking what it refers to, because the comparison is almost always with the most expensive rate possible, that of last-minute payment without any reservation.

External parking with shuttle: the most consistent savings

Private external parking located a few minutes' shuttle from terminals almost always remains the most economical option of all, often at less than half the price of official parking adjacent to the terminal. The cost in terms of time is contained, in the order of 10-15 additional minutes between free shuttle wait and ride, an acceptable loss for anyone leaving their car for more than two or three days.

Free minutes of Kiss&Go for very quick stops

For a quick goodbye you don't need to pay hourly rate: Kiss&Go areas in front of terminals offer almost everywhere a free stop between 10 and 15 minutes (at Fiumicino, for example, they're 15 in front of terminals 1 and 3), beyond which the full rate or a fine kicks in. Anyone departing at night hours or in the early morning hours can also check night rates, which on some parking are discounted compared to daytime rates.

Before paying at the barrier, always compare the price on the airport's official site with that of an independent comparator for the same dates: on a week-long stay the difference can easily exceed 20-30 euros.
