Airport taxi: how to organize your departure

Booking a taxi for departure requires communicating the exact flight time, not just the hour you want to be picked up, and calculating a wider margin for late-night or very early morning departures, when vehicle availability is significantly reduced.

When to book: standard times and critical times

For daytime departures at standard times, booking one or two days in advance is generally sufficient in most cities. For very early morning or late-night flights, when availability decreases, booking a week in advance, especially toward destinations with lower service density, avoids being left without options precisely when you need them.

What to communicate: flight, address and safety margin

Always indicate the flight departure time, not just your desired pickup hour: only this way can the service calculate the correct margin and alert you in case of unexpected traffic. Also specify the exact address, with street number and landmarks for addresses difficult to locate, and allow for an additional margin beyond the theoretical travel time, especially for international flights.

App or traditional taxi: advantages and plan B

Apps provide an estimated price upfront and real-time monitoring of the incoming vehicle; traditional taxis, in cities with a regulated sector, sometimes prove more reliable on stormy days or during major events, when apps can have much longer wait times due to demand spikes. Always keep a direct contact number for the local taxi service, in addition to just the app, as an alternative channel in case of technical issues.

Specific needs and large groups

Communicate during booking any needs such as a child car seat, additional space for bulky luggage, or assistance for passengers with reduced mobility: flagging them in advance avoids having to change vehicles at the last minute. For large groups, verify the maximum capacity of the assigned vehicle, both for passengers and luggage, to avoid finding yourself needing a second car just when time is running out.

Whatever the time of day, add at least 15–20 minutes to the travel time estimated by a mobility app before setting your pickup time: it is the traffic on the final stretch, not the driver, that most often costs you precious time.
