Barra Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Barra is one of the smallest islands in the United Kingdom served by an airport: the runway is on Traigh Mhòr beach and flight times depend on the tides, so it's best to arrive with some margin. The accommodation is made up almost entirely of independent cottages, not hotels in the classic sense. Anyone with a flight at dawn or arriving late at night does better to stay near the runway, between Eoligarry and Northbay; anyone who wants to visit the island, Kisimul Castle or take the ferry to Oban heads to Castlebay, the main village to the south.

Airport area · Less than a mile from the Traigh Mhòr runway: a few minutes by car, and also reachable on foot.
Best for: for anyone with a very early flight or landing late at night who doesn't want to travel far

- Isolated area, a car is needed to get around the island

Best for: for anyone who prefers staying on the east coast, with a view over the bay, a few minutes from the runway

- Closer to the runway than Castlebay

- Very few properties to choose from
- Local bus with limited services, better to have a car

- Starting point of the ferry to Oban
Cons
- The farthest from the runway among the island's areas
- Few rooms available, book well in advance
