Diyarbakır Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Diyarbakır's airport is surprisingly close to the city: just 10 km and 15-20 minutes by taxi from the walls of Sur, a UNESCO heritage site. The Kayapınar district, where the Mövenpick and the Radisson Blu have arrived in recent years, is even closer still: the Mövenpick is just 5 minutes from the terminals. The choice is therefore more a matter of atmosphere than of convenience: sleeping inside the historic walls, among mosques and alleys, or in a recently opened chain hotel on the wide avenues of the new city.

Sur, the old city

Neighbourhood · About 10 km from the airport, 20 minutes by taxi to the gates of the walls; bus routes Z-2, Z-3 and Z-7 connect the airport to the centre but don't enter the alleys of Sur.

Best for: Those who want to sleep within Diyarbakır's UNESCO walls, among mosques, churches and the Hasan Paşa bazaar.

Kayapınar, the new business district

Airport area · The Mövenpick is about 5 minutes from the airport, the Radisson Blu 10; both are on Urfa Bulvarı, away from the traffic of the historic centre.

Best for: Quick layovers and business trips, with the airport a few minutes away by car.
