Graz Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Graz Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Graz-Feldkirchen is 10 km from the centre, but the S-Bahn S5 links the airport station, 300 metres from the terminal, to the Hauptbahnhof in just 12 minutes; bus 630 takes about 20 minutes and requires a change to actually reach the centre. The area around the Hauptbahnhof, a few minutes' walk from the UNESCO World Heritage old town, therefore remains the almost obligatory reference point for anyone flying to Graz.
Historic centre and Hauptbahnhof
City centre · S-Bahn S5 from the Hauptbahnhof, about every 30 minutes, 12-minute journey, single ticket €3; bus 630 (about 20 minutes plus a change) for those arriving outside S5 hours.
Best for: Travelers who want the UNESCO old town and a direct train to the airport, with no changes.
Pros
- The S5 is a direct, fast link, without the traffic of the expressway to the airport
- The UNESCO World Heritage old town is reachable on foot from the Hauptbahnhof in a few minutes
Cons
- The S5 isn't very frequent: outside peak hours it's worth checking the connections in advance
- The area right by the Hauptbahnhof is less picturesque than the real old town
