Joensuu Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Joensuu Airport is in the municipality of Liperi, about 11 km from the city centre: there are no hotels near the terminal, so the choice of accommodation is concentrated entirely in the centre, on both banks of the Pielisjoki River. Bus route JOJO 6 links the airport and the city in 15 minutes, but doesn't run on weekends or public holidays, leaving taxis as the only option on those days. With few flights a day (almost all Finnair to/from Helsinki) there's no point staying near the runway: it's always better to pick a hotel in the centre, a few minutes' walk from the railway station.

Joensuu centre

City centre · Bus route JOJO 6 (Savo-Karjalan Linja), 15 minutes, about €5 cash only, running on weekdays but not on weekends or public holidays; taxi 15 minutes, about €20, with cars waiting at arrivals.

Best for: Any stay: it's the only area with a real hotel offering, 15 minutes by bus or taxi from the Liperi terminal.
