King Abdulaziz International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Jeddah's center is 19 km away and there is no urban train: that leaves taxis, taking 25-35 minutes, and a few bus lines. For anyone with a dawn flight or a night layover it therefore makes sense to sleep inside or next to the airport, where one hotel is in Terminal 1 and another is a few minutes away with a free shuttle. If you are staying a few days, the choice is along the Corniche, with the Red Sea in front of you. During Hajj and Umrah the influx grows a great deal: the three-hour margin for international flights should be extended and rooms booked well in advance.

At the airport, Terminal 1

At the airport · AEROTEL is inside Terminal 1, on the departures level, in the international transit area: you reach it on foot from the gates, without leaving the airport.

Best for: One-night layovers, for those who don't want to leave the terminal.

Pros
  • Check-in open around the clock, useful with flights landing at night
  • Gates and baggage a few minutes' walk away, with no transfers to arrange
Cons
  • Reviews are mixed, with criticism of service and upkeep
  • To see Jeddah you still have to leave the terminal and take a taxi

Recommended hotels in this area

  • AEROTEL Jeddah: The only hotel inside Terminal 1: 120 rooms, a fitness center, prayer rooms and restaurants, in a style inspired by the rawashin of old Jeddah.

  • The free shuttle saves a taxi, even with several bags
  • Outdoor pool and fitness center, useful during a long wait
Cons
  • The surroundings are roads and offices, with no evening strolls
  • To see Al-Balad or the Corniche you need a taxi of 25-35 minutes

Corniche and waterfront

City centre · From the airport you take a metered taxi: the center is 19 km away and the ride takes 25-35 minutes; there is no direct bus line to the waterfront.

Best for: Those staying a few nights who want the sea, waterfront strolls and restaurants, with Al-Balad a short drive away.

Pros
  • Red Sea, waterfront and open-air sculptures a few minutes from the hotel
  • Upscale hotel with a rooftop terrace, to rest after the flight
Cons
  • The taxi is the only direct link, both ways
  • For Al-Balad, the UNESCO historic center, you need a second trip

Recommended hotels in this area
