Kuressaare Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Kuressaare airport is about 3 km from the centre of the island of Saaremaa, reachable with bus lines 1, 2 and 12-3 (stop right in front of the terminal, about 10 minutes, 2 euros) or by taxi for about 10 euros; with little luggage it is even possible to walk. Kuressaare is a compact spa town, built around the Episcopal Castle and its park: almost the whole centre can be covered on foot, with the small tourist harbour and the seafront promenade just a few minutes from the castle. The choice is more about style - a historic boutique hotel or a modern spa hotel - than about distant areas.

Seafront and marina
Neighbourhood · The same bus line (1, 2, 12-3) or taxi from the airport to the centre, then a 5-10 minute walk along the promenade to the harbour; the castle is a few minutes' walk from the harbour itself.
Best for: Travellers who prefer a modern spa hotel on the seafront, overlooking the small tourist harbour rather than the streets of the old town.
Pros
- Seafront promenade and small tourist harbour right below the hotel
- Rooms with views of the castle park or the city garden, depending on the side
Cons
- A few extra minutes on foot to reach the shopping and restaurant streets of the old town
- In winter the harbour promenade is sparsely used and bare
Recommended hotels in this area
- Asa Spa Hotel: On the promenade near the small tourist harbour, with balconied rooms looking onto the castle park or the city garden; the spa centre with a water slide is among the largest on Saaremaa.
