Lugano Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Lugano-Agno Airport is just 4 km from the centre, with bus 16 reaching the city in 10-14 minutes and a line 60 train in about 13: distances short enough that staying in the centre is almost always the better choice, with no need to look for a hotel near the runway. Since there is no real airport zone with hotels, the choice plays out entirely within Lugano: between the Paradiso lakefront, the Via Nassa pedestrian zone and the area around the SBB station up on the hill.

Best for: Any stay: it's the only area with a substantial hotel offering, 10-15 minutes from the airport by bus, train or taxi.

Pros

The lakefront, Via Nassa and the lake boats are nearly all reachable on foot from the central hotels
Very short distances from the airport: even staying in the centre you lose no time on transfers

Cons

The hotels near the SBB station, handy for onward train travel, are uphill from the lake
In high season (spring-summer) the lakefront and Via Nassa get very busy, with prices rising accordingly
