Mihail Kogălniceanu International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Mihail Kogălniceanu International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
The airport sits halfway between Constanța and the coast, but geography favours the beach: Mamaia and Năvodari are just 13-15 km away (about 15-20 minutes by car), while the old town of Constanța is 23-26 km away, almost 30 minutes of transfer. That's why those arriving in summer for the sea do best to stay on the coast, while those coming for the old town and the Casino must factor in a longer trip. There are no direct public shuttles: the transfer is by car, taxi or a private transfer booked in advance.
Mamaia and the Năvodari coast
Neighbourhood · 13-15 km from the airport, 15-20 minutes by car or taxi; no direct train or bus, only a private transfer or car rental.
Best for: Those flying in for the sea and the Black Sea beaches: this is the area closest to the airport and the reason most flights to CND exist.
Pros
- A shorter distance from the airport than to the centre of Constanța
- Beach, seafront and summer nightlife concentrated within a few kilometres of coastline
Cons
- Out of season (October-May) much of the hotels, restaurants and bars close
- Without your own car, moving along the coastal strip depends on taxis or paid transfers
Recommended hotels in this area
- Crowne Plaza Constanta - Mamaia Beach by IHG: The only international chain hotel on the coast, on Mamaia Boulevard near Lake Siutghiol; a heated indoor pool and a seasonal outdoor pool, useful even in the colder months.
- Alezzi Beach Resort: A beachfront resort in Năvodari, the stretch of coast just north of Mamaia and closest to the airport (about 13 km); pools and a play area designed for families on summer holiday.

Constanța and the Casino Peninsula
City centre · 23-26 km from the airport, about 25-30 minutes by car or taxi; here too there's no direct public link to the airport.
Best for: Those who want the old town, the Art Nouveau Casino and the Tomis harbour, accepting a longer transfer from the airport.
Pros
- Constanța Casino, the National History and Archaeology Museum and the Tomis marina within walking distance
- Year-round city life, unlike the coast, which empties out of season
Cons
- A longer transfer from the airport than for Mamaia
- The city-centre beaches (Modern Beach) are smaller and less organised than those on the coast to the north
Recommended hotels in this area
- Ambra Boutique Hotel & Bistro: 20 rooms right in the centre, 4 minutes by car from Modern Beach and 5 from Ovidiu Square; breakfast cooked to order and an in-house bistro also open in the evening.
- Peninsula-Cazino, Dalvi: An apartment about 500 metres from Ovidiu Square and 1 km from Modern Beach, on the Casino Peninsula: convenient for anyone who wants the Casino and the Tomis harbour right on their doorstep.
