Mistakes to avoid right after arriving at the airport
Check-in and luggage drop-off close as a rule 40 minutes before departure for short-haul flights: a margin that a few minutes lost looking for the right terminal or a parking space can easily eat into.
Identify the correct terminal before leaving
Heading towards the wrong terminal happens more often than you'd think, especially at airports with two or three buildings spaced far apart and connected by shuttle buses that take more minutes. The simplest way to avoid it is to check on your boarding pass or the airline's app which terminal serves your flight, before getting out of the taxi or car.
The departures board and last-minute changes
Not checking the departures board right away means finding out too late about a gate or time change, information that at larger airports can arrive with little notice during peak hours.
Unplanned parking: the time you lose
Looking for a parking space without having booked in advance a parking space can easily cost you 15-20 minutes, a margin that adds to the check-in closing 40 minutes before departure and leaves no room for surprises.
Navigate quickly between toilets, cafés, and services
Not immediately spotting the location of toilets and dining areas forces you often to backtrack later, maybe already in the security queue, when time is much tighter.
The most useful tip remains just one: check the exact terminal on your boarding pass or the airline's app before leaving home, not after you've arrived at the wrong entrance.
