Nadi International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Nadi airport is Fiji's main international gateway and the most common starting point for holidays on the west coast: a small strip of hotels has grown up around the terminal, just minutes away by car, useful for short stopovers or dawn flights. The bulk of the tourist offer, however, is further away: at Wailoaloa Beach and Nadi Bay, about 10 minutes from the airport, and above all at Denarau Island, the artificial peninsula 25-30 minutes further south where the large beach resorts with golf courses are found. Nadi town itself is little more than a crossroads of shops and Indian-Fijian restaurants, useful for a meal but rarely a destination to spend the night.

Airport and Queens Road

Airport area · 3-7 minutes by car from the terminal for the hotels on Queens Road; the Nadi Airport Transit Hotel can be reached in about 2 minutes by taxi.

Best for: One-night stopovers and dawn departures, when a few minutes' transfer matters more than the beach.

Pros
  • A few minutes from the terminals, useful for the most common international flights at dawn
  • Tropical gardens and a pool as the only evening diversion, convenient for those who just want to rest
Cons
  • No beach within walking distance: reaching the sea still takes 10-30 minutes by car
  • A transit area along Queens Road, with little to do on foot in the evening

Recommended hotels in this area

  • Mercure Nadi: Five acres of tropical gardens around a central pool, 7 minutes by car (about 3.4 km) from the airport; airport shuttle and the Rokete restaurant for those who don't want to go out.
  • Novotel Nadi: 5 minutes from the airport, overlooking 42 acres of tropical gardens; designed for both families and business travellers, with conference rooms on site.
  • Nadi Airport Transit Hotel: About 2 minutes by taxi from the terminal (Westfield City area), designed for those who just need to sleep between two flights without reaching the coast.

Wailoaloa Beach and Nadi Bay

Neighbourhood · About 10 minutes by car from the airport (8 km to Nadi Bay Road), without having to cross through central Nadi.

Best for: Those who want a real beach a few minutes from the airport, without going all the way to Denarau.

Pros
  • Wailoaloa beach right on the sea, much closer to the airport than Denarau
  • Sunsets over the open sea, different from the view towards Denarau and the islands
Cons
  • Smaller and less sheltered beach than Denarau's, with fewer shops and restaurants around
  • Evening connections to central Nadi only by taxi

Denarau Island

Nearby town · About 20 km and 25-30 minutes by car from the airport; most resorts arrange private transfers by reservation.

Best for: Those seeking an all-inclusive resort with beach, pools and a golf course, accepting a 25-30 minute transfer from the airport.

Pros
  • Large resorts with several pools, private beaches and a marina with shops and restaurants
  • Starting point for ferries to the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands
Cons
  • Longer transfer from the airport than Wailoaloa or central Nadi
  • Noticeably higher prices than other areas of Nadi

Recommended hotels in this area

  • Club Wyndham Denarau Island: One- to three-bedroom apartments with kitchen, a lagoon-style pool with a swim-up bar and a kids' club, overlooking the ocean on Denarau Island.
