Ontario International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Ontario International Airport (ONT) is in the city of Ontario, California, in the Inland Empire about 60 km east of Los Angeles: it has nothing to do with the Canadian province of the same name. There's no real downtown to visit, and the area is designed mainly for those working or passing through without wanting to face the traffic toward the coast. Those with a dawn flight or a meeting nearby find it convenient to stay a few minutes from the terminal; those who want to shop or eat out gain a few minutes' drive by heading to Ontario Mills or, for a more modern, open-air atmosphere, to Victoria Gardens, in Rancho Cucamonga.

Airport area

Free hotel shuttle, 2-3 minutes from the terminal.

Best for: Those with a dawn flight or a meeting at the Ontario Convention Center.

Pros
  • Just a few minutes from the terminal, with a free shuttle
  • Right next to the Ontario Convention Center for those on a business trip
Cons
  • An area of offices and parking lots, nothing to do on foot in the evening
  • Busier on days with trade shows or events at the convention center

Cons
  • Heavy traffic on weekends around the mall

Victoria Gardens, Rancho Cucamonga

Neighbourhood · About 20-25 minutes by car from the airport (about 13-15 km); no verified direct shuttles have been found, you'll need your own car or a rideshare.

Best for: Those who want a more modern, well-kept neighborhood, away from the airport traffic.

Pros
  • An open-air mall with shops and restaurants more refined than the area's average
  • A more modern, quieter neighborhood in the evening
Cons
  • Further from the airport than the other areas
  • A rental car or a rideshare is needed, no direct shuttles have been found
