Palanga International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Palanga airport is within the city limits, 7 km from the centre: bus 100 gets there in 10 minutes for 0.70 euros, a taxi in 15-20 minutes. Palanga is a Baltic seaside resort that lives almost entirely on summer, so the choice depends more on the beach than on the airport: those after pine woods and a spa go for Vanagupė, while those looking for a quieter, less crowded sea go for Šventoji, the coastal village to the north that is still part of the Palanga municipality. The rest of the market is made up almost entirely of private apartments near the seafront promenade, to be chosen case by case depending on the distance from the beach.

Vanagupė and the pine forest

Neighbourhood · A few minutes' drive from the terminal, with a hotel shuttle; on foot it takes about 15 minutes to reach the sandy beach.

Best for: Travellers who want a spa resort among the pines, a few minutes from the airport and a quarter-hour walk from the beach.

Pros
  • A protected pine forest area between the airport and the centre, quieter than the main promenade
  • Spa centre with pools and a Turkish bath among the largest on the Lithuanian coast
Cons
  • Beach 15 minutes on foot, not directly on the sea
  • Some reviews report furnishings and rooms in need of renovation despite the high category

Šventoji

Nearby town · About 20-25 minutes by car or taxi from the airport, 12 km north of the centre of Palanga; no fast direct public transport link.

Best for: Travellers after a quieter, less crowded sea than Palanga's summer centre, accepting a longer trip from the airport.

Pros
  • A beach less crowded than Palanga's centre, with dunes at the mouth of the Šventoji river
  • A quiet residential area, away from the nightlife of the main promenade
Cons
  • Fewer restaurants than in the centre of Palanga, especially out of season
  • A car or a taxi is needed for every trip towards the centre or the airport
