Salalah Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Salalah Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Salalah's airport is west of the city, and the big resorts along the coast are spread out at different distances along the same shore road: the ones closest to the terminal are also the furthest from the souq and the historic centre, while anyone who wants the frankincense market and Al Haffa within easy reach has to accept a few extra kilometres from the airport. With very few international properties among the real candidates, the choice stays simple: luxury beach resorts, differing only in distance from the centre and the terminal, useful above all during the Khareef season (June-September) when the hills of Dhofar turn green and arrivals increase.
Resorts near the airport
Airport area · 10-15 minutes by car from the airport, about 5-8 km along the coast.
Best for: Those who want the shortest possible transfer and spend the stay between the resort's beach and pool, without aiming for the city centre.
Pros
- One of the shortest airport transfers in all of Salalah
- Large resorts with private beach, pools and several in-house restaurants
Cons
- The Al Haffa souq and the historic centre remain 12-15 km away, you need a car or a taxi
- An area with little development outside the resorts: no neighbourhood life nearby
Recommended hotels in this area
- Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara: About 5-8 km from the airport, next to the Al Baleed archaeological park: the most refined resort in the area, with private beach and villas with pool.
- Crowne Plaza Resort Salalah by IHG: About 5.8 km from the airport: a more affordable alternative to the nearby luxury resorts, while still offering a private beach and large pools.

Salalah centre and Al Haffa
Neighbourhood · About 14 km and 15-20 minutes by car from the airport; the centre and the Al Haffa souq, on the other hand, are just a few minutes away.
Best for: Those who want to visit the Al Haffa souq, the Land of Frankincense Museum and the historic centre without moving around too much, accepting a longer airport transfer.
Pros
- Al Haffa souq and the historic centre reachable in a few minutes, not 15 km away as from the resorts near the airport
- A private beach is still available at the resort, without giving up the sea
Cons
- A longer transfer from the airport compared to the resorts in the western area
- Prices and service level perceived as less competitive than Crowne Plaza and Al Baleed according to reviews
Recommended hotels in this area
- Hilton Salalah Resort: On Sultan Qaboos Street, about 9-10 km from the centre and the Al Haffa souq: the international-brand resort closest to the historic town, at the cost of a longer transfer from the airport (about 14 km).
