Southwest Florida International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Southwest Florida International Airport is roughly halfway between the mainland and the Gulf beaches, so the choice depends on what you want to do before flying. Anyone with a dawn flight or in town just for work finds everything a few minutes away, near the I-75 junction. Anyone wanting a taste of the real Fort Myers, with the River District waterfront and its evening spots, sleeps better downtown, about twenty minutes away. Those here for the beach do well to head all the way to Fort Myers Beach, a good half hour from the terminal, especially given the traffic on the Matanzas Pass bridge in high season.

Airport area and I-75

  • Very short distance from the terminal, with a free shuttle at many hotels
  • Lower prices than downtown and the beach
