Jet2.com: How the British Holiday Carrier Works, the New A321neo Fleet and Traveler Reviews
Jet2.com is the airline arm of the British group Jet2holidays, which began as Channel Express and was turned into a passenger carrier in 2003. It operates from 12 UK airports, with its main bases at Manchester, Birmingham and London Stansted, and stands out from other UK carriers for a business model built around the all-inclusive holiday package rather than the flight-only ticket, with a significant share of passengers buying flight and hotel together.
History and positioning
Born as a regional cargo operator, the Jet2 brand shifted to leisure passenger flights in the early 2000s, joining forces with the tour operator Jet2holidays of the same group. The hybrid model - selling both the flight alone and the holiday package - places it midway between a traditional charter airline and a pure low-cost carrier, with a summer 2026 offering that the group itself calls its largest ever, covering 57 sun-and-sea destinations from all 12 British airports.
The fleet
The fleet for summer 2026 rises to 136 aircraft, mostly the previous-generation Boeing 737 family alongside a growing number of newly purchased Airbus A321neos, with 155 further A321neos on order for the next decade. The A321neos make their debut at bases such as London Stansted and Glasgow, offering a stated fuel saving of more than 20% and a smaller noise footprint than the older models in the fleet.
Routes and network
The network is almost exclusively leisure, to the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, North Africa and a few long-haul destinations to the Caribbean via the holiday program. Seasonality is pronounced, with a peak in capacity in the summer months and a smaller winter network concentrated on warm destinations.
What passengers say
Online reviews tend to rate Jet2 more favorably than other British leisure carriers, particularly when it comes to assistance in the event of disruption during the holiday package.
- Strengths cited most often: transparency of baggage fares compared with other leisure low-cost carriers, holiday packages seen as handled more attentively when there are problems with the hotel or the transfer, standard carry-on baggage included in the base fare.
- Recurring criticisms: delays concentrated in the summer peak periods linked to the intensive rotation of the fleet, a cancellation and change policy that remains rigid on the cheapest fares.
Jet2.com is a good fit for those who buy a complete holiday with flight and hotel and prefer a single point of contact if problems arise during the stay. It is less suitable for those looking only for a flight-only ticket at the lowest fare on niche routes, since the network remains concentrated on the classic leisure destinations of the British market. Anyone flying with Jet2 only for the transport, without the holiday package, should still check the exact dimensions of the included carry-on bag: they differ slightly from those of other leisure carriers, and a check before departure avoids surprises at the gate.
