Peach Aviation: What to Expect From ANA's Orange Low-Cost Carrier
Peach Aviation is the low-cost airline of the ANA group, founded in 2011 and operating since 2012 from a base at Kansai airport, near Osaka. Recognizable by its orange livery and a name that evokes the lightness of travel, in 2019 it absorbed the group's other low-cost carrier, Vanilla Air, on the management side, becoming ANA Holdings' main low-cost arm on a network covering Japan and the nearest Asian destinations such as South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Routes and network
From Kansai, Peach serves the main Japanese cities as well as international links to Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong and other destinations in Northeast Asia, with a network designed for leisure tourism more than business traffic. The management takeover of Vanilla Air in 2019 expanded the network further, incorporating its most profitable routes.
History and positioning
Born in 2011 as ANA's response to the growth of Asian low-cost carriers, Peach chose from the start a positioning distinct from the group's main brand, with a visual and commercial identity aimed at a younger, more price-sensitive audience. It has, however, always remained entirely in the hands of ANA Holdings, unlike other low-cost carriers born from international joint ventures such as Jetstar Japan.
Fares and baggage
The fare model is unbundled: the base fare covers only transport and a small carry-on bag, while checked baggage, an advance seat assignment and meals on board are paid for separately. Flash sales on social media are a distinctive feature of the airline, with very aggressive fares available for limited periods on selected routes.
What passengers say
What works:
- Very competitive promotional fares if you follow the airline on social media for flash offers.
- Good flight frequency on the main routes from Kansai.
What's missing:
- Boarding and disembarking often by bus from a remote stand, less convenient than direct jet bridges.
- Telephone customer service with waiting times reported as long during peak periods.
Peach Aviation suits those who live or travel in the Osaka area and want the lowest price for getting around Japan or to the nearest Asian destinations, especially by following the flash sales on social media. It is less suitable for those who need quick connections in case of unexpected problems, because assistance in the event of a cancellation is what you would expect from a low-cost carrier, with longer handling times than the major airlines. A practical tip: flash offers sell out within a few hours, so it is better to turn on notifications in the official app than to check the website manually.
