Qatar Airways in 2026: The A350/777 Fleet, the Qsuite and Why Passengers Love It So Much
Relaunched in 1997 under Qatar's state control, Qatar Airways has become one of the Gulf's three big super-connector carriers, using the geographic position of its Hamad International hub in Doha to link Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania with a single stop. Unlike the other two big Gulf carriers, it joined the Oneworld alliance in 2013.
History and positioning
Since its 1997 relaunch, Qatar Airways has grown into one of the Gulf's three super-connectors, using Doha as a hub between distant continents with a single stop. Joining Oneworld in 2013 remains an unusual choice among the big Gulf carriers, which often prefer to stay outside the major alliances.
The fleet
The widebody fleet includes about 58 Airbus A350-900/-1000, around 51 Boeing 787 and about 64 Boeing 777 aircraft, with another large order, up to 100 Boeing widebodies plus options, agreed in 2025 to keep renewing the long-haul fleet.
Routes and network
The network has passed 160 destinations across six continents from the Hamad International hub, where daily passenger traffic has exceeded 140,000. Its strength remains the Europe-Asia/Oceania link routed with a single stop in Doha.
On board and service
The Qsuite business product, with sliding doors and a modular four-seat configuration, set an industry standard at launch and is gradually being extended to new deliveries; the loyalty program is the Privilege Club, integrated with Oneworld.
What passengers say
Qatar Airways has repeatedly placed at the top of the Skytrax rankings of the world's best airlines, and passenger reviews largely confirm that verdict, praising the cabin service and the Qsuite product. The most recurring criticisms concern long waits in Doha after a missed connection and economy comfort that is not always uniform across the mixed fleet.
Qatar Airways is an effective choice for those connecting Europe and Asia or Oceania on a one-stop itinerary who want a well-regarded business product. It is less suitable for anyone who wants to avoid a Gulf stopover on principle or needs the shortest possible journey on city pairs with good nonstop options elsewhere. When booking the Qsuite, deliberately choose the configurable double seats when you buy the ticket, not at check-in, because the modular configuration only really makes a difference if reserved as a pair.
