Star Perú: The Last Boeing 737-300s Still Flying on the Routes of the Peruvian Amazon
Star Perú is a small Peruvian airline based at Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima, specializing in connections to interior and Amazon cities in Peru that are poorly served by the major national carriers. Its role is that of a regional niche carrier rather than a direct competitor of LATAM Peru on the main routes.
The fleet
The fleet combines four Boeing 737-300s with 143 seats, a model of an older generation by now but still operating on these routes, with two Bombardier Dash 8-Q402s with 76 seats for the shorter regional connections.
Routes and network
From Lima, Star Perú connects cities such as Cajamarca, Huánuco, Iquitos, Pucallpa, Tarapoto and Chiclayo, many of them deep in the Amazon region where road transport is often impassable or extremely slow. In some of these cities the airline also has a presence agreement with Avianca, which uses the Star Perú network to maintain coverage in five Peruvian cities.
What passengers say
- Most cited strength: direct connections to Amazon cities where transport alternatives remain scarce or nonexistent.
- Most reported limit: the average age of the Boeing 737-300 fleet, a model that has not been produced for decades, though it remains safely operational on these routes.
Star Perú is especially useful for those who need to reach Amazon cities such as Iquitos or Pucallpa, where flying remains the only realistic alternative to river transport or extremely long road journeys. It is less suitable for those looking for a recent-generation aircraft, given the age of the Boeing 737-300 part of the fleet.
If you book through Avianca for one of the cities covered by this agreement, still check that the actual operator is Star Perú: baggage and onboard service conditions may differ from the standard ones of the brand shown on the ticket.
