Newark airport lounges: which one to pick, terminal by terminal
At Newark, the choice of lounge depends above all on your flight's terminal: Terminal C is United's domain, with two United Clubs and the Polaris Lounge for intercontinental flights, while Terminal B hosts the European carriers and a couple of lounges temporarily closed for renovation. Terminal A sits in between, with a United Club, American's Admirals Club and an upcoming Amex addition.
Those flying United from Terminal C have the airport's widest choice: two United Clubs, one near the start of the concourse and a newer, more spacious one further along, designed for those with status or a co-branded card. Travelers flying Polaris or intercontinental business on United or another Star Alliance carrier instead find the United Polaris Lounge, with rain-shower suites and a dining room with table service instead of the usual buffet: it's the highest tier United offers at Newark.
American Airlines' second lounge built with the new design concept, after the one at Washington Reagan: 655 square meters with a central fireplace and lighting inspired by Edison's light bulb, invented a few kilometers from here in West Orange.
Admirals Club members, American Airlines and oneworld international First/Business passengers, status holders.

In Terminal A the picture is more mixed. American Airlines' Admirals Club follows the carrier's new design concept, with a central fireplace and lighting that recalls Edison's light bulb, invented a few kilometers from here in West Orange. A third United Club covers those flying United from this terminal, while the Delta Sky Club is Delta's first and, for now, only lounge at Newark. This same terminal is also where Newark's first Centurion Lounge has been announced, for American Express Platinum cardholders: opening is planned but without a firm date yet.
Terminal B is the most international: the Lufthansa Lounge also welcomes SWISS and Austrian business passengers, while the nearby SAS Lounge serves those flying to Scandinavia and EuroBonus members; SAS passengers in lower classes without included access can still buy entry online or directly at the lounge. The French carrier La Compagnie, which flies only business class, has its own Lounge&Co reserved for passengers departing for Nice, Paris Orly and Milan Malpensa, the three routes operated from Newark. Two lounges remain closed for renovation: the British Airways one, which will reopen refurbished, and the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, which before closing also accepted Priority Pass holders during certain time slots.
At Newark, the right question is: which terminal are you departing from? Those flying United from Terminal C have the richest choice, with the Polaris Lounge as the top tier; those departing from Terminal A find American, Delta and soon Amex as well; those flying to Europe from Terminal B rely on the Lufthansa, SAS or La Compagnie lounges, keeping in mind that two lounges in the same terminal are temporarily out of service for renovation. Those without cards or status can still consider a day pass, an option that exists at more than one United and American lounge at Newark, useful for trying the experience without commitment.
