JFK lounges: how to find your way between terminals

At JFK the lounges change from one terminal to the next, with different airlines and different rooms, so choosing a lounge starts with the terminal of your flight. Terminal 4 offers the widest choice, Terminal 8 is home to American Airlines and British Airways, and at Terminal 1 Priority Pass opens more doors than anywhere else.
The first filter is the terminal, the second is how you get in. If you hold a premium ticket, you look for your airline's lounge; if you have a credit card with lounge access or Priority Pass, you look at the independent lounges and the ones run by banks, of which JFK has quite a few.

Terminal 4 has the richest offer. Passengers flying Delta One have the Delta One Lounge, between concourses A and B, with a terrace that can be used all year round, a brasserie and shower suites; entry is not sold. The Delta Sky Clubs on concourses A and B serve members, Medallion elites and eligible Amex holders. The cards have lounges of their own here: The Centurion Lounge for Amex Platinum and Centurion, with a speakeasy-style bar and a family room; the Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club with Etihad Airways, above gate A2, with reflection rooms for those who want quiet; and the Capital One Lounge, which never closes and sells entry even to people who do not hold the card. With Priority Pass alone there are HelloSky and the Air India Maharaja Lounge, both accessible only shortly before departure; the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, with a free à la carte menu and a pool table, also welcomes Amex Platinum holders. At Terminal 8 American Airlines and British Airways split their lounges by tier. The Greenwich Lounge focuses on chef-driven cuisine and stays open until late at night; in the Soho Lounge you order à la carte from your smartphone with a view of the runways; the Chelsea Lounge has a circular bar with champagne and dishes signed with the James Beard Foundation. The Admirals Club on Concourse C and the more compact Provisions by Admirals Club sell a day pass, which can also be paid for in AAdvantage miles; at the Admirals Club, during peak periods, it may not be available. Terminal 1 is where Priority Pass is most worthwhile: the Primeclass Lounge and the VIP ONE Lounge count, while the Korean Air Lounge admits holders only during certain evening time slots and Be Relax Spa includes one treatment per visit. The Air France, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines lounges remain tied to the ticket; in the Turkish one only non-alcoholic drinks are served. At Terminal 5 there is the JetBlue BlueHouse, the airline's first lounge, for Mosaic 4 members, JetBlue Premier Card holders and Mint passengers, with paid entry subject to some restrictions. At Terminal 7 the Aer Lingus lounge welcomes Business passengers and anyone who buys a Lounge Pass in advance.
To choose at JFK it is best to work backwards from the gate. First identify the terminal, then check whether your ticket or status already opens the airline's lounge, such as Delta One at T4 or the American and British Airways lounges at T8. Otherwise look at the type of card: at T4 Centurion, Chase Sapphire and Capital One, at T1 the Priority Pass lounges. If you have neither, you will find paid entry at Capital One, at the BlueHouse and in the Admirals Clubs, when there is room.
