Stansted airport lounges: how to choose between the two
At Stansted the choice is simpler than elsewhere, because there are only two lounges and they answer opposite needs: one is designed for those with a general-purpose lounge card, the other exists only for passengers of one specific airline.
The Essence by Escape Lounge took over from the previous Escape Lounge on 1 April 2026 and is reached after security control, via the Stansted Transit System towards gates 1-19. It is the reference lounge for those travelling with Priority Pass or who want to pay for entry directly, but with one important limit: it only serves passengers departing from Pier 1, so it remains out of reach for those flying with Easyjet or Ryanair, the two airlines with the most flights from this airport. Anyone who arrives at the terminal without first checking which pier they're departing from risks discovering only at the airport that they can't get in, however valid their lounge card may be everywhere else in the world.
After security control, reached via the Stansted Transit System towards gates 1-19, 'Premium Lounge' area.
It replaced the previous Escape Lounge from 1 April 2026 and serves only Pier 1 passengers, remaining inaccessible to those flying with Easyjet or Ryanair.

The Emirates Lounge, in Satellite 1 a few steps from the airline's gate, follows a completely different logic: entry is free for those flying First or Business, and for Skywards Gold and Platinum members, each allowed to bring one companion, while those travelling in Economy or on a special Business fare can still purchase entry. Its hours follow the airline's two daily blocks of departures, so the lounge stays closed during the hours when no Emirates flight is about to leave, and all guests must travel on the same flight to enter together. It is therefore a lounge designed for a specific audience, not for anyone who simply holds a lounge card and is looking for somewhere to wait before any flight: without an Emirates ticket in hand, you simply don't get in.
The two lounges, in essence, don't compete with each other: those not flying Emirates who want somewhere calm to wait will look to the Essence by Escape Lounge, provided they're departing from Pier 1, while those flying with the Dubai carrier already have their own lounge guaranteed, regardless of which card they hold. It's also worth remembering that the two lounges aren't side by side: one sits along the route towards gates 1-19, the other at Satellite 1, so it's worth knowing in advance which area you're heading to before setting off with your hand luggage, to avoid pointless queuing at the wrong spot and, especially for those flying with Emirates, the risk of reaching the gate convinced you can get into a lounge that, at that time of day, is simply closed.
In short, at Stansted the right question isn't which lounge is better but which one is accessible for your flight. Those departing from Pier 1 without flying Emirates can rely on the Essence by Escape Lounge with Priority Pass or by paying on site; those flying Emirates, especially in First, Business or with a high Skywards status, have a dedicated lounge a few steps from their gate. For everyone else, at this airport, there's nothing left but to wait directly in the boarding area.
