How to get to Dubai International Airport

Dubai city centre (Downtown/Burj Khalifa) is approximately 5-15 km from the airport depending on the area: the transfer takes approximately 15-30 minutes by taxi or metro.

By Car

Visitors arriving by car reach central Dubai in approximately 15-30 minutes, depending on traffic.

By Train

Dubai Metro (Red Line) serves the airport directly, connected to Terminals 1 and 3, and is the most economical and fast option to the city centre; there is no national rail connection.
💡
Tips For the metro, buy a rechargeable Nol Card (25 AED, of which 19 AED credit) or a single-use Red Ticket: it is generally faster and more economical than a taxi during peak hours. The metro operates from 5:00 a.m. to midnight (until 1:00 a.m. Thursdays-Fridays).

Dubai → Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa

The metro descends directly to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, just steps away from the world's tallest tower and the most visited shopping mall in the Emirates: much more practical than a taxi during heavy traffic hours.

Dubai → Deira and the Gold Souk (old town)

The most direct route passes through Union, the interchange between Red Line and Green Line, then exits at Baniyas Square or Gold Souq: from here you walk through the alleyways of gold and spice souks along the Dubai Creek.

Dubai → Dubai Marina and JBR

For the beach, it's best to exit at DMCC or Jumeirah Lake Towers and board the Tram, which in a few minutes takes you to Jumeirah Beach Residence stops, 5-10 minutes walk from the sea.

Dubai → Dubai World Trade Centre

Those traveling for trade shows or conferences can exit directly at World Trade Centre station, on the same Red Line, with no changes.

Car rental at Dubai International Airport

Major international car rental companies have desks in each terminal.

Basic documents are driving license, passport and credit card, plus IDP in most cases.

Hotels near Dubai International Airport

In Dubai the airport is practically inside the city: Downtown is 15-30 minutes away and the Red Line metro starts from Terminals 1 and 3, so sleeping in the centre rarely costs time. It's different for those with a visa-free layover or a flight in the dead of night, when the metro is not running and staying inside the terminal or a few minutes away by shuttle avoids taxis and checks. Those staying a few days choose by what they want to see: skyscrapers and shopping malls, the souks along the Creek or the beach, much farther from the terminal than the map suggests.
