Hotels near Mostar International Airport

The airport is in the village of Ortiješ, about 7-8 km south-east of the city, and is not served by any public bus: the only way to arrive or leave is by taxi, about 12 minutes for 15-22 KM. Since there is nowhere reliable to stay next to the runways, the choice almost always falls on the old town, around the Old Bridge, handy both for visiting the city and for booking the taxi back. Worth keeping in mind only for those arriving outside the scheduled taxi hours: it is always best to agree the transfer time with the hotel the day before.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Can you pay in euros in Mostar?

The Bosnian convertible mark is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate, but it is not the same currency: some tourist businesses informally accept euros in cash, often at an unfavourable rate. It's better to withdraw convertible marks from an ATM or pay by card directly where possible.

Q. Are the flight connections active year-round?

They are more frequent in summer, with some seasonal routes: always check up-to-date schedules, especially if travelling in the off-season.

Q. What to see near Mostar besides the Stari Most?

The Kravice waterfalls, about 40 minutes by car, and the villages of Herzegovina with their Žilavka vineyards: a rental car from the airport is the most convenient way to reach them.

Q. Are mines a risk in Mostar?

No: Mostar was officially declared mine-free in 2024. As in the rest of the country, caution only applies to remote, marked rural areas, not to the city or tourist trails.
