Bosnia and Herzegovina: main airports
Bosnia and Herzegovina has three airports with regular international connections. The main one is Sarajevo Airport, the capital; followed by Mostar Airport, gateway to Herzegovina and the famous Stari Most bridge, and Banja Luka Airport, the main city of Republika Srpska in the north of the country.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: visa and entry requirements
Citizens of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and many other nationalities (over 98 countries in total) do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. The passport must be valid for the duration of the stay.
Bosnia and Herzegovina: safety
Bosnia and Herzegovina is generally safe for tourists, with low common crime in cities and tourist areas. The one specific caution concerns landmines left over from the 1990s conflict: they are confined to remote rural areas, forests and marked mountains, not to cities, paved roads, well-trodden paths or tourist attractions (Mostar was officially declared mine-free in 2024). The practical rule is simple: never leave marked paths or roads in the countryside, especially in areas that were sites of fighting.
Bosnia and Herzegovina: health situation
No vaccination is mandatory for those arriving from Europe. Sarajevo's health facilities are of an adequate standard for common emergencies; in smaller towns provision is more limited. Travel insurance with medical coverage remains good standard practice, as in the rest of the Balkans.
Bosnia and Herzegovina: currency, payments and connectivity
The currency is the convertible mark (BAM), pegged to the euro at a fixed rate; credit cards are widely accepted in the main cities, less so in small towns and traditional markets where cash remains useful. Bolt operates in the main cities; local taxis are nonetheless widespread and reliable. For connectivity, the operators BH Telecom, m:tel and HT Eronet sell prepaid SIM cards. For driving, EU citizens can generally use their national licence; for others an International Driving Permit (IDP) is also advisable.
