Hotels near Yogyakarta International Airport

Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), opened in 2019 in Kulon Progo, replaced the old Adisutjipto airport, which was almost inside the city: YIA instead sits 40-45 km from the centre, with 1-1.5 hours by car depending on traffic. Some online Booking listings still use the old airport's name ('near Adisutjipto'): for anyone flying into YIA today, those properties are actually in the city, not near the new airport. The airport train connects YIA to Yogyakarta station in 35-40 minutes and is the most reliable option for those who don't want to risk traffic on the road to Malioboro.

Both hotels are about 5 minutes by car from the terminal, in the Temon district; neither is within walking distance of the gates.

Best for: Early morning flights or one-night stopovers, when you don't want to make the trip to the city in both directions.

Pros
  • 5 minutes from the terminal, useful for those arriving late or departing very early
  • Completely avoids the 1-1.5 hour trip to Yogyakarta city
Cons
  • Only the airport service area around: for dinner you stay at the hotel
  • Malioboro or the temples of Prambanan and Borobudur still require the long transfer

  • The airport train makes the transfer predictable, without the risk of traffic on the road to Kulon Progo
