Airports in Mongolia

Mongolia: main airports

Mongolia is served by the new Chinggis Khaan International Airport, near Ulaanbaatar, the capital.

The country, among the least densely populated in the world, offers the boundless Mongolian steppes, the Gobi desert and a nomadic culture still deeply rooted.

Mongolia: visa and entry requirements

Citizens of the EU, UK, US and many other nationalities can enter without a visa for tourist stays of up to 30 days.

Always check the updated requirements before departure.

Mongolia: safety

Mongolia is generally a safe country for visitors, with violent crime rare.

Excursions into the steppe and the Gobi desert generally require an experienced guide, given the isolation and extreme climatic conditions (very harsh winters, hot summers with large nighttime temperature swings).

Mongolia: health situation

No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry from Europe or North America. Healthcare facilities outside Ulaanbaatar are very limited: travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage is strongly advisable for those visiting the steppe or the Gobi.

Bring any necessary medications with you, as availability outside the capital is very limited.

Mongolia: currency, payments and connectivity

The currency is the Mongolian tögrög (MNT). Credit cards are accepted at hotels and restaurants in Ulaanbaatar, but cash remains essential outside the capital.

The official language is Mongolian. A tip (5-10%) is appreciated but not always expected, often already included in organised tours.
