Airports in Tunisia

Tunisia: main airports

Tunisia is served by four international airports: Tunis-Carthage, the country's main hub, Enfidha-Hammamet, the main charter gateway to the tourist coast, Djerba-Zarzis, on the island of the same name in the south, and Tozeur-Nefta, gateway to the Tunisian Sahara, as well as the smaller Sfax.

The country offers the UNESCO World Heritage ruins of Carthage, the medina of Tunis, the beaches of the island of Djerba, and the Sahara dunes near Tozeur.

Tunisia: visa and entry requirements

Citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, EU (including Italy) and many other nationalities can enter without a visa for short tourist stays, with just a valid passport.

As of today, Tunisia does not have an official e-visa system: nationalities that need a visa must apply in person at the nearest Tunisian embassy or consulate. Since 1 January 2025, a passport is mandatory: ID cards are no longer accepted for entry, regardless of nationality.

Tunisia: safety

Tunisia is generally safe for visitors in the coastal tourist areas (Hammamet, Sousse, Djerba) and in the medina of Tunis, with the usual precautions.

Always check your country's updated travel advisories, especially for the border areas with Libya and some areas of the southern hinterland.

Tunisia: health situation

No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry from Europe. It is advisable to drink bottled water and pay attention to food hygiene.

For excursions into the Sahara, bring adequate sun protection and stay well hydrated, given the temperature swings between day and night.

Tunisia: currency, payments and connectivity

The currency is the Tunisian dinar (TND), not exportable: exchange remaining currency before leaving the country.

The official languages are Arabic and French, the latter widely used in commerce and tourism. There are no ride-hailing apps like Uber or Bolt in Tunisia: traditional taxis, often metered, remain the only option, along with organized transfers.
