Izmir's airport is in Gaziemir, about 18 km south of the centre, but the İZBAN train leaves from a station inside the terminal itself and reaches Alsancak in 27 minutes with no changes: one of the simplest connections of any Turkish airport. That's why the centre is almost always the better choice, even with a mid-morning return flight, leaving the near-terminal option only to those departing at dawn or with a layover of a few hours.

Best for: Those who want the Kordon waterfront, Alsancak's restaurants and the direct train from the airport with no changes.
