The Astor Piazzolla airport is about 7 km from the centre of Mar del Plata, connected by bus line 542 and by taxi or remise car (no direct train): staying downtown, near Playa Bristol, remains the most convenient choice for those arriving for the beach or for a long weekend from Buenos Aires. The airport area offers no dedicated hotels, so the choice is concentrated almost entirely in the city, where, however, prices rise sharply in January and February, the high season for Argentine beaches.

Centre and Playa Bristol

City centre · No direct train: bus line 542 connects the airport to the centre with stops at Playa La Perla and avenida Luro; by taxi or remise car the roughly 7 km are usually covered in 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.

Best for: Those arriving for the beach or for a long weekend from Buenos Aires and who want to stay within walking distance of the beach and the centre.

NH Gran Hotel Provincial: A historic 1939 building overlooking Playa Bristol, right next to the Casino Central: it's one of the most recognisable buildings on the Mar del Plata seafront, handy for those who want the sea and a stroll on foot.
Sheraton Mar Del Plata Hotel: Heated indoor and outdoor pools and a wellness centre with spa; reviews note, however, that the hotel is not on the beach, unlike the Gran Hotel Provincial, but in a residential area a few blocks further inland.
