Asturias Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Asturias airport is 46 kilometers from Oviedo, about forty minutes by taxi or 45-50 with the ALSA bus, which leaves every hour in front of arrivals and also stops in Avilés and Gijón. With no hotels on the airport grounds and no direct train, those with a dawn flight should arrange the transfer the evening before. In the city, besides the casco histórico clustered around the cathedral, two areas remain convenient: Campo de San Francisco, with the larger hotels near the university, and Calle Uría, a step away from the bus and train station for those already tired from the journey.

Casco histórico, near the cathedral

City centre · about 40 minutes by taxi from the airport, or the ALSA bus (45-50 minutes, one departure an hour) to Oviedo station

Best for: those who want to sleep among the lanes of the historic center and visit the cathedral and Plaza de la Constitución on foot

Pros
  • A few steps from the cathedral, Plaza de la Constitución and the Fontán market
  • Dozens of cider houses and bars in the lanes around the cathedral
Cons
  • Pedestrian streets, not very convenient for those arriving by car
  • Scarce parking in the most central streets

Recommended hotels in this area

  • Soho Boutique Oviedo: Three minutes' walk from the cathedral and the University, with a buffet breakfast and a round-the-clock reception.
  • Green Hostel: A few steps from Plaza de la Constitución and the Fontán market, with a terrace and breakfast included.

Campo de San Francisco and the university area

Neighbourhood · the same travel time from the airport as the casco histórico, about 40 minutes by taxi or the ALSA bus to the station

Best for: those looking for a larger hotel near the park, the university and the Palacio de Congresos

Pros
  • Overlooking Campo de San Francisco, the city's largest park
  • Five minutes' walk from Calle Gascona and its cider houses
Cons
  • A few hundred meters more to reach the casco histórico
  • Larger hotels, less distinctive than the properties of the historic center

Recommended hotels in this area

  • Eurostars Hotel de la Reconquista: An eighteenth-century palace declared a national monument, 150 meters from Campo de San Francisco.
  • NH Oviedo Principado: Across from the historic university building, with some rooms offering a view of the Gothic cathedral.
  • Gran Hotel España: A nineteenth-century palace between the Foncalada, the University and the cathedral of San Salvador.

Station area, Calle Uría

Near the airport link · the same travel time from the airport as the historic center; the ALSA bus stops right at Oviedo station

Best for: those arriving or departing on the ALSA bus from the airport who want to get off a step away from their room

Pros
  • A couple of minutes from the bus and train station
  • Still just a few minutes' walk from the historic center and the Campoamor theater
Cons
  • Through traffic on the wider streets of the area
  • Less distinctive than the lanes of the casco histórico
