Banak Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Lakselv-Banak airport is 1.5-2 km from the village, a handful of minutes on foot with light luggage or a short taxi ride: Lakselv is a small service town along the Porsangerfjord, with few properties but all close to one another. There are no real local alternatives: the choice is between the village hotel and the motel on the fjord, a little further out.
Lakselv
City centre · 1.5-2 km from the airport, 5 minutes by taxi or 15-20 on foot; the Lakselv Hotel is in the village, the Fjordutsikten about 1.3 km further east, on the fjord.
Best for: Those on a layover or staying one night before continuing to Cape North or the fishing areas of the Lakselva river.
Pros
- Minimal distances: the whole village can be explored on foot in a few minutes
- The Fjordutsikten has views over the Porsangerfjord and is a cheaper option
Cons
- Very few restaurants outside the hotels themselves: the evening choice is limited
- No public shuttle to the airport, you need a taxi or your own car even for the short distance
Recommended hotels in this area
- Lakselv Hotel: The only real hotel in the village, 1.5-2 km from the airport; 44 rooms renovated in 2005, in-house restaurant.
- Fjordutsikten Camping AS: Motel and campsite on the Porsangerfjord, about 1.3 km from central Lakselv; shared kitchen, laundry and fjord views described as the property's strong point.
