Broome International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Broome Airport is less than a kilometre from Chinatown, the city's historic heart that grew up around the pearling trade: a rarity for an airport that also serves direct flights into the Kimberley. The centre is almost always the right choice, if only for the proximity, while Cable Beach, the 22 km beach that made Broome famous, sits apart: those coming mainly for the sunset and the camels on the sand do well to stay right there, accepting a few extra minutes' transfer from the airport.
Broome Town and Chinatown
City centre · The airport is about 1 km from Chinatown, a 3-minute drive; Mangrove Hotel and Roebuck Bay Hotel are both a few minutes away, while Oaks Broome is about 5 minutes from both the centre and the terminals.
Best for: Those who want Chinatown market, restaurants and Broome Jetty within a few minutes' walk, with the airport practically around the corner.
Pros
- No need for long taxi rides: airport, Chinatown and Roebuck Bay are all just minutes from each other
- The sunset over Roebuck Bay, visible from several hotels in the area, doesn't require travelling all the way to Cable Beach
Cons
- Cable Beach, with its sunset camel tours, remains about 15-20 minutes by car
- Outside Chinatown the area is poorly lit and designed for those driving, not walking
Recommended hotels in this area
- Mangrove Hotel: Tropical gardens with views over Roebuck Bay, two pools and two restaurants; among the city's most popular hotels for sunset views.
- Oaks Broome Hotel: A minute from Town Beach and about 5 minutes from both Chinatown and the airport; rooms and apartments with a kitchen, useful for families.
- Roebuck Bay Hotel: A historic pub-hotel in the heart of Chinatown, the most affordable option in the area; the ground-floor bar stays open late, so it's not the right choice for those seeking quiet.

Cable Beach
Neighbourhood · About 6 km from the airport, 10-15 minutes by car or taxi; no direct link to the terminals, so a taxi, rental car or hotel shuttle is always needed.
Best for: Those who come to Broome mainly for the 22 km beach, the sunset and the camel tours, and prefer to stay just steps from the sand.
Pros
- Beach and sunset tours within walking distance of the seafront hotels
- More resorts and pools than the centre, designed for multi-day stays
Cons
- Every trip to the airport or Chinatown requires a car, a taxi or the hotel shuttle
- A residential and tourist area without shops or nightlife comparable to Chinatown
Recommended hotels in this area
- Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa: Cable Beach's historic resort, among the closest to the beach in the area; bungalows in Broome Pearling style and two pools amid tropical gardens.
- Pinctada Hotel Broome: Also known as Kimberley Sands Resort, in a bush area a few minutes from Cable Beach; quieter and cheaper than the Cable Beach Club.
- Oaks Cable Beach Resort: Apartments with a kitchen a few minutes from the beach, designed for families or longer stays; higher scores for the two-bedroom units.
