Flying with children stress-free
Flying with children requires wider time margins and a few more precautions than an adult trip, but much of the stress comes from easily preventable organizational details.
Priority boarding and family services
easyJet boards families with children under five years old ahead of other passengers, giving time to settle baggage and let the little ones adjust. Some major Italian airports, such as Malpensa and Linate, offer a "Family Friendly" service that guarantees boarding priority to families with children up to 12 years old: however, it's not a standard present at every airport, so it's best to check before departure.
Extra baggage for the newborn
Beyond standard carry-on, many airlines allow a dedicated bag for newborn accessories without counting it in the normal limit. Milk, water for baby bottles, and baby food meant for the child during the flight are also exempted from the standard 100 ml limit on liquids, provided you present them separately at security.
Fares and seat for the newborn on board
Ryanair applies a fixed rate of 25 euros for the newborn without its own seat, while traditional airlines generally charge about 10% of the adult fare, often offering a wall crib on longer flights. From mid-2027 a new European rule, approved in July 2026, will also take effect, which will require airlines to seat children up to 14 years old free of charge next to a parent. For flights of several hours, you'll find specific tips in our guide to long flights with children.
At the time of booking, always check if your airline or departure airport offers priority boarding for families: it's the easiest way to gain time without any additional paperwork.
