Houari Boumediene Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Houari Boumédiène airport is in Dar El Beida, on the city's east side, while most of Algiers' life is concentrated to the west, around Cheraga and the Casbah: with no dedicated rail line, every trip depends on traffic along the ring road. Anyone with an early-morning flight or a short layover is better off staying in the Bab Ezzouar area, a few minutes from the terminals, while those who want to see the city should allow 30-40 minutes by car to the center or Cheraga, with frequent queues at rush hour.

Bab Ezzouar and Dar El Beida

Airport area · The Atlantis Alger Aéroport (formerly Ibis) is about 3 km from the terminals with a dedicated shuttle; the Residence Inn Marriott, in the nearby Trust Complex business district, offers a free shuttle and is about 5 minutes by car from the airport.

Best for: Early-morning flights, one-night layovers, and anyone arriving late who doesn't want to face the traffic into the center.

Pros
  • Hotel shuttles designed specifically for the airport, with no need to haggle over a taxi on arrival
  • The Bab Ezzouar shopping center is within easy reach for a meal or some shopping
Cons
  • An office and retail district: there's no street life in the evening
  • To visit Algiers you still have to face 30-40 minutes of traffic heading west
