Innsbruck Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

The airport is just 4 km from the centre, but there is no rail link: bus line F connects it to the central station (Hauptbahnhof) in about 20 minutes, with departures every 15-30 minutes; a taxi covers the same distance in 10-15 minutes. Since Innsbruck is a compact city, squeezed between the mountains, there's no point here in distinguishing areas far from the centre: almost all the good hotels are at the Hauptbahnhof or in the Altstadt, in any case 10-20 minutes from the flight.

Centre and central station

City centre · Bus F from the Hauptbahnhof (Triumphpforte area) every 15-30 minutes, about 20-minute journey, single ticket €4. By taxi, 10-15 minutes.

Best for: Any stay: the whole city is 10-20 minutes from the airport, with the pedestrian Altstadt and the Hauptbahnhof close to each other.

Pros
  • No area is really inconvenient: bus F links the airport and the centre in about 20 minutes
  • The pedestrian Altstadt with the Goldenes Dachl is reachable on foot from the station in 10-15 minutes
Cons
  • There's no train to the airport: outside bus F's hours, only a taxi is left
  • During the winter sports high season, traffic to the airport can lengthen taxi times
