Lajes Field: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

The Lajes airport shares its runways with the Portuguese air base and sits in Vila das Lajes itself, the small village that gives it its name: for a layover or an early departure no real transfer is needed, just a few minutes on foot or by car from the houses of the vila. Angra do Heroísmo, the capital and the island's only true town, is instead 15 km away (about 20 minutes by car or taxi); Praia da Vitória, closer by, is linked by an hourly bus, line 151. Those with just one night between two flights will find simple, inexpensive accommodation in Lajes, with no need to move around.
