Owen Roberts International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Owen Roberts International Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels
Owen Roberts is less than two kilometres from the centre of George Town, but almost all the tourist accommodation is further north, along Seven Mile Beach, 15-20 minutes by car from the terminal: the real choice is between the big branded resorts and the condominiums on the same beach, rented by room or by apartment. There is no tourist bus between the airport and the beach: you can only get there by taxi, private shuttle or rental car, so it's worth weighing the cost of the transfer alongside that of the room.
Seven Mile Beach - big resorts
Neighbourhood · 15-20 minutes by taxi or rental car (8-13 km) from Owen Roberts; there's no direct bus, only taxis, private shuttles or your own car.
Best for: Travellers who want open sea and the facilities of an international resort, accepting a 15-20 minute trip from the airport.
Pros
- Direct beach access to Seven Mile Beach, with snorkelling and water sports organised on site
- Several resorts offer restaurants, spas and pools enough to fill a day without needing to move
Cons
- No public link to the airport or to George Town: every trip needs a taxi, often an expensive one
- Prices rise sharply in the December-April season and almost all resorts add a daily resort fee

Seven Mile Beach - condos and apartments
Neighbourhood · 15-20 minutes by taxi or rental car from the airport, as for the resort area: the condominiums are spread along the same stretch of Seven Mile Beach.
Best for: Families or multi-night stays who want to cook for themselves, staying on the same beach as the big resorts at a lower price.
Pros
- Full kitchen in every unit, useful given the cost of groceries and restaurants in the Cayman Islands
- The same beach as the high-end resorts, often for a fraction of the price per night
Cons
- No round-the-clock reception or hotel services: check-in is often self-service with a code or key
- A rental car is needed for groceries, since there are no supermarkets within a few steps of most complexes
Recommended hotels in this area
- Beach Living at Island Pine Villas BLAW: Ground-floor unit in the Island Pine Villas complex, in the heart of Seven Mile Beach, about a minute's walk from the beach and opposite the West Shore Centre.
- Beach Living at Plantation Village BLGS: In the Plantation Village complex, right on the beach at the southern end of Seven Mile Beach, with two shared pools among the buildings.
