Proserpine Whitsunday Coast Airport: where to stay, areas and recommended hotels

Whitsunday Coast Airport is located in Proserpine, but the real base for visiting the Whitsundays is Airlie Beach, 38 km and about 30 minutes by car away: from there the boats to Whitehaven Beach and the Great Barrier Reef depart. A shared shuttle costs around 22 Australian dollars one way (36 return) and a direct taxi around 100 dollars. It's almost always worth going for Airlie Beach, even for a short stay: Proserpine itself offers tourists almost nothing, and staying overnight there is only justified by a dawn flight or a late-night arrival.
